Meric Makes Good on Boat Show Bet!
Last season Gary and our friend, Cpt. Keith put together a little incentive package for Meric to sell a certain number of boats at last years boat show. Hit the mark; and they promised to send Meric to the Inn on Cuttyhunk for a two day, all expenses paid fishing weekend. Come up short – even by one boat – and Meric would have to where a chicken suit to a public restaurant of their choosing in front of everyone. Well, although he, once again, sold more boats than anyone, he did end up missing the mark by more than a couple. So last week, all of a sudden and just as Meric was thinking he may have gotten off the hook, Friday was declared Chicken Day! Gary had us close up the shop early and we all headed out to Lindsay’s Restaurant in Wareham for a fun filled afternoon of poking and making fun of Chicken Boy!

Holy Molar!
Our good friend and customer Captain Billy Hulbig dragged this Mastodon’s tooth up from the depths over GEORGES BANK which (for all you land-lubbers) lies about 170 NM East of Hyannis, MA. Mastodons (Mammut americanum) are part of a group of extinct elephant-like mammals, the mastodonts, which first appeared during the early Miocene, about 20 million years ago, and became extinct at the end of the Pleistocene about 10,000 years ago. The Mastodons belong to same Order of mammals as the elephants, Order Proboscidea. The name of this Order is derived from the words "pro" meaning "before" and "boskein" meaning "to feed" which refers to the elongated trunk possessed by modern and ancient elephants. So… Why would a meandering Mastodon misplace a molar in la Mer? Well, you see, young Pad Won, about 3 million years ago, Georges Bank was not part of the ocean at all! It was dry land due to the world’s oceans being largely tied up in glacier ice. So; ipso-facto, we think the tooth is about 3 million years old. Pretty cool, huh?!

The New Pahts Guy!
Well… Now that our beloved Georgie is retired; there was a bit of a vacuum left in his wake. So, we demoted the boss to fill the Parts Administrator position. We’re not sure if he can tell a Thermostat from a P&L report, but we’re working on him… Oh, I’m just kidding! Gary’s probably the most knowledgeable of all of us when it comes to boat stuff. After all; he is the “G” in G&S! We’re sure he’ll be able to fulfill all of your marine parts needs. That is if he doesn’t play hooky to go off fishing for the day with Sparky. I mean, what can we do? He’s “Big G”.
